For me, it's time to quit ignoring the security holes in Mac OS X. These problems are real, and with the prospect that Macs are becoming more appealing to Windows users due to the Intel Macs and Boot Camp, users of these new products must understand they'll need to treat their new Mac with the same level of vigilance they apply to Windows.
The newly disclosed flaws center around image processing and the Safari web browser. There's no shock there as both of these are attack vectors that are commonly used by virii.
I know this is outside the normal topics of this blog, but I get tons of crap for pointing out the flaws in Microsoft's competitors and especially whenever I point out problems in Mac OS X. I don't say these things because I'm uneducated about Macs, I say them because sticking your head in the sand and ignoring security is the number one barrier to security. It's just a matter of time before these vectors will be attacked. |
